Intermediate Range Migration in the Two - Dimensional Stepping Stone Model

چکیده
Z 2 in the limit L→∞, and study the time it takes two lineages tracing backward in time to coalesce. Our work fills a gap between the finite range migration case of [Ann. Appl. Probab. 15 (2005) 671–699] and the long range case of [Genetics 172 (2006) 701–708], where the migration range is a positive fraction of L. We obtain limit theorems for the intermediate case, and verify a conjecture in [Probability Models for DNA Sequence Evolution (2008) Springer] that the model is homogeneously mixing if and only if the migration range is of larger order than (logL).

The coalescent and the genealogical process in geographically structured population.
We shall extend Kingman's coalescent to the geographically structured population model with migration among colonies. It is described by a continuous-time Markov chain, which is proved to be a dual process of the diffusion process of stepping-stone model. We shall derive a system of equations for the spatial distribution of a common ancestor of sampled genes from colonies and the mean time to g...
متن کاملGenetic demixing and evolution in linear stepping stone models.
Results for mutation, selection, genetic drift, and migration in a one-dimensional continuous population are reviewed and extended. The population is described by a continuous limit of the stepping stone model, which leads to the stochastic Fisher-Kolmogorov-Petrovsky-Piscounov equation with additional terms describing mutations. Although the stepping stone model was first proposed for populati...

The classical island and one-dimensional stepping-stone models of population genetic structure developed for animal populations are extended to hermaphrodite plant populations to study the behavior of biparentally inherited nuclear genes and organelle genes with paternal and maternal inheritance. By substituting appropriate values for effective population sizes and migration rates of the genes ...
متن کاملStepping-stone model with circular Brownian migration
In this paper we consider a stepping-stone model on a circle with circular Brownian migration. We first point out a connection between Arratia flow and the marginal distribution of this model. We then give a new representation for the stepping-stone model using Arratia flow and circular coalescing Brownian motion. Such a representation enables us to carry out some explicit computation. In parti...
